The hair strengthening serum contains actives known to help promote hair growth, both in men and women. Ingredients: distilled water, sea kelp bioferment, L-acetyl carnitine, niacinamide, soy isoflavones, saw palmetto, grape seed proanthocyanidins, coconut endosperm, chrysin, nettle extract, L-arginine, L-glutamine, glucose, Keratinocyte Growth Factor (KGF), superoxide dismutase, Propylene Glycol, Diazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben (and) Propylparaben.
Use: Apply daily to head at night (preferably after a bath or shower). Rinse in the morning. Positive effect should be noted within six weeks of first use although results will vary on an individual basis.
KEY INGREDIENTS
KGF: this protein (19,000 molecular weight) , is also known as FGF-7 and heparin-binding growth factor-7 (HBGF-7). KGF is a member of the fibroblast growth factor family and was found to stimulate hair growth. Cells that respond to KGF do so because they have receptors on the cell membrane that recognize the factor (which has been produced by cells that may be near or far from the target cell). The binding of the growth factor to the receptor initiates a cascade of molecular events that will eventually lead, among other effects, to cell division.. Sea kelp bioferment: complete nutrient supply, moisturizer. The substrate for fermentation is a sea macroalgae rich in caragenaan, algin, minerals and many active chemicals. Fermentation makes the cell contents of this algae readily available to your skin, moisturizing it and providing the nutrients required to synthesize new components.
Carnitine: antiage, L-Carnitine and derivatives like acetyl carnitine, carry activated fatty acids through the mostly impermeable inner mitochondrial membrane, allowing the respiration of fatty acids. The activated fatty acid (Acyl-CoA) cannot pass through the membrane but there is a special translocator for Acyl-carnitine. Once carnitine releases the fatty acid it carries (a process involving a tranferase), carnitine can go out again and take up another activated fatty acid. L-carnitine is a derivative of the amino acid lysine, and it is named after the material it was first isolated from, meat (carnus in Latin), in 1905. It was first believed to be a vitamin, and called vitamin BT, but humans can synthesize L-carnitine, although under certain conditions and depending on the diet the demand for L-carnitine may exceed an individual's capacity to synthesize it, making it a "conditionally essential nutrient".
Grape seed proanthocyanidins: antioxidant, promotes hair growth. Derived from the seeds of both red and white grapes, grape (Vitis vinifera) seed extract , containing 95% proanthocyanidins, is one of nature's most powerful antioxidants and a major free radical scavenger. These flavonoids protect capillary walls and inhibit the enzymes that break down collagen (collagenase), hyaluronic acid (hyaluronidase) and elastin (elastase). Proanthocyanidins also help promote tissue elasticity, help heal injuries, reduce swelling and edema (anti-inflammatory), restore collagen and improve peripheral circulation. Proanthocyanidins also prevent bruising, strengthen weak blood vessels and reduce histamine production.
Niacinamide: anti-age, anti-itch. Niacinamide is a vitamin, but even when following a normal healthy diet, topical application of niacinamide will result in increased synthesis of collagen, keratin, involucrin and flaggrin. Topical application of niacinamide will decrease pruritus and inflammation, decrease oiliness, alleviate atopic dermatitis, and decrease UV-induced skin cancers. These are just a few of the beneficial effects of topical application of niacinamide to the skin, and it would be suspicious that there are so many were it not for the crucial role of this chemical in human metabolism.
Soy isoflavones: antiage. Isoflavones are polyphenolic compounds capable of exerting estrogen-like effects, i.e. they will bind (weakly) to the estrogen receptors on the surface of your skin cells. Cells in human males also have receptors for estrogen. The amounts of soy isoflavones will be enough to help with hair growth without leading to unwanted side effects.
Saw palmetto: Saw palmetto (Serenoa repens) sterols have been shown to inhibit 5-alpha-reductase activity, the enzyme responsible for conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone and to inhibit binding of dihydrotestosterone to the cytosolic androgen receptor.
