(Cymbopogon citratus) oil, usually obtained by steam
distillation, has antifungal activity and can be used against dermatophytes.
Contains monoterpene citral as the major constituent (75%) which finds use as a
flavoring agent, and in the perfumery and pharmaceutical industry as a natural
precursor of semisynthetic vitamin A. Also contains limonene and alpha-pinene,
with anti-flu activity.
