Comments on Pain Relief Concentrate:
Two RN/massage therapists at the
Memorial Hospital Wellness Center (each with over 20 years experience in massage
therapy and nursing) have been testing the initial prototype pain relief
cream. Overall, the response to the pain relief cream has been positive -
both from clients and from staff members using it on their own aches and
pains.
While some people and/or some conditions respond with immediate,
(although temporary) pain relief, usually, full pain-relieving benefits are not
achieved for 10-30 minutes. Please allow some time for the cream to
penetrate before making an assessment. Some people experience a mild
stinging upon application; this subsides within a few minutes with no apparent
skin irritation resulting. Commercial products containing Celadrin (the
brand name for cetyl myristoleate) nearly always contain peppermint. It
may be that the cooling sensation of peppermint is used to mask the temporary
stinging sensation that some people note. At the Wellness Center, massage
clients experienced the most effective pain relief when the painful areas were
treated with the concentrated pain relief cream prior to the massage to allow
the actives to sink in. When the painful areas were encountered during the
bodywork treatment, they were massaged with the usual massage cream in the hopes
that massage would further increase penetration of the
actives.
Cetyl myristoleate reduces pain through an anti-inflammatory
action. Inflammation commonly results in pressure on nerve endings which, in
turn, causes pain. The addition of GABA further calms the nerve transmission of
pain. The SAS pain relief cream is the only product that targets pain
relief with both of these pain relievers in one formula. Although
pain relief from the initial application may last only a few hours, consistent,
repeated applications may bring about longer-lasting relief. The pain
relief concentrate is not a cure, but it is conceivable that a sustained
anti-inflammatory action may promote healing of acute musculoskeletal injuries
by breaking the vicious cycle of inflammation/irritation; however, chronic
conditions, such as arthritis, will probably require "chronic
applications." The pain relief cream is, however, very easy to apply; a
thin applications is all that's needed.
