Found in red wine. It seems that resveratrol (3,5,4'-trihydroxystilbene), a polyphenolic antioxidant found in grapes and red wine, blocks UVB-mediated activation of the factor NFkappa-B,and this would be the mechanism of protection against photocarcinogenesis. Resveratrol could be useful in the treatment of skin conditions, including fungal infection and diabetic wounds.
Our Resveratrol comes from Polygonum cuspidatum, Japanese knotweed. A plant that produces Resveratrol in very high concentrations.
Additional information suggests that Resveratrol may mimic the beneficial effects of a low calorie diet. See http://www.nytimes.com/2006/11/02/science/02drug.html for the New York Times' coverage.
