Protect Your Skin From The Outside World

What is Pollution?
That’s a nasty word. It probably summons up ominous images into our minds, but we don’t know exactly what it means. In its broadest possible terms, pollution means contamination to an environment from outside factors. We often think of chemicals and gas vapors as pollution, but light and noise can be classified as pollution as well.
How Do Pollutants Affect Our Skin?
When we’re talking about our skin, it’s probably those upsetting images of smoke stacks and rivers flowing icky green that we are talking about. Too much light in the night sky blocks our ability to see the stars and too much sound is disruptive to the sensitive animals we share the environment with, but it’s not going to do much to our skin.
The pollutants that fill the air and water have been accumulating throughout the industrialized age. They don’t vanish quickly, dissolving into the air like the plums of smoke we see rising from chimneys. Once we introduce pollutants into our environment, they tend to stick around, invisible. Much like a bag of tea, we are steeping in them, passively, all the time. Our skin creates a barrier to these pollutants, protecting our organs and internal systems from them.
But this comes at a cost.
The pollution in our air and water are filled with Reactive Oxygen Species, or as we like to call them, ROS. You can find out more about it in our blog. The critical takeaway is that the process of oxidation that is compounded by ROS ages our skin more quickly than if these contaminants were absent from our environment.
So, while our skin is doing as much as it can, what are we doing to protect our skin?
The SAS Answer: ROS Bionet™
Our skin deals with ROS all the time, because in addition to those we encounter in the environment, our own body makes them as byproducts of respiration by mitochondria. We have sophisticated mechanisms to deal with them that include multiple enzymes, proteins and low molecular antioxidants. The problem arises when we are bombarded with so much ROS in the air and water that the natural mechanisms we have to deal with them get overloaded.
In short, if your skin’s antioxidant system is overwhelmed, the consequences will show as wrinkles, irregular pigmentation, loss of elasticity and what we know as aged skin. Most of the damage we see in aged skin has been caused by ROS and not by intrinsic aging.
What is ROS Bionet™ and Why It Works
Skin Actives ROS BioNet™ is a special blend of antioxidants that work together to sweep ROS in a metaphorical net. We designed ROS Bionet to prevent oxidative stress and the damage it can do to your skin. Layer one of our light Advanced Ageless creams under your sunscreen; it makes a perfect addition to any daytime routine.
ROS BioNet™ is made up of the following antioxidant fighting components, very quickly, here is what they do:
- Glutaredoxin – acts in antioxidant defense.
- Superoxide Dismutase - eliminates the free radicals and prevents chain reactions that would eventually reach deep into the skin.
- Thioredoxin – is a protein that acts as an antioxidant by facilitating the reduction of other proteins.
