Should I Add Soy Isoflavones To My Skincare Routine?

Posted by Susan Katz on Apr 14th 2023

Since 2005, Skin Actives has been selling DIY ingredients in pre-measured amounts to make it easy to mix your own products. Many of our customers prefer to create their own skincare products using active ingredients to have more control over the ingredients they use and create a totally customized skincare routine specifically for their particular needs. Today we will touch on another active ingredient, soy isoflavones and explore the benefits of soy isoflavones for the skin, who can benefit from them, some examples of DIY skincare recipes using soy isoflavones from Skin Actives, and who should not use soy isoflavones.

What are Soy Isoflavones?

Soy isoflavones are plant-derived compounds that have gained attention in the skincare industry due to their numerous benefits. These compounds are found naturally in soybeans, and they have been shown to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, making them a popular ingredient in many skincare products.

Benefits of Soy Isoflavones on Skin

Soy isoflavones have numerous benefits for the skin. They are potent antioxidants that help to protect the skin against damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals are unstable molecules that can cause damage to the skin, leading to premature aging and other skin problems. Soy isoflavones also have anti-inflammatory properties, which can help to soothe irritated skin and reduce redness. Additionally, soy isoflavones have been shown to promote collagen production, which can improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and help to maintain skin elasticity.

Who Can Benefit from Soy Isoflavones?

Adding soy isoflavones to your skincare routine can benefit a wide range of people, including those with mature skin, sensitive skin, and those who are looking to improve the overall appearance and health of their skin. Soy isoflavones can also be beneficial for people who are looking to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation, such as age spots or sun damage. However, it is important to note that soy isoflavones may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who are allergic to soy or who have a history of hormonal imbalances.

This is normal and nothing to worry about.  Your end result should have a brown tint to it and smell a little like soy.  This is a natural ingredient that has not had the odor/color processed out of it.

Who Should Not Use Soy Isoflavones?

While soy isoflavones are generally safe for most people, there are some people who should avoid using them. If you have a soy allergy, you should avoid using any skincare products that contain soy isoflavones. Additionally, if you have a history of hormonal imbalances or hormonal related breast cancer or are taking tamoxifen, you should speak with your healthcare provider before using soy isoflavones. This is because soy isoflavones can have estrogen-like effects in the body, which can affect hormone levels.
