Skin Actives DIY Cellulite Home Remedy
Posted by Brendan Leonard on Apr 5th 2022
It’s not fair, it’s just not. Cellulite is a female concern and that’s science talking not some kind of unfair body standard.
At this point we know that cellulite is a challenge that 80-90% of women will encounter in their lifetimes. This is a staggering number when compared to the just 10% of men that will have it.
And as we’ll see below, the causes of cellulite tend to be uniquely female. So it’s just not fair!
Well, Skin Actives Scientific is here to help. There are some ways out of your cellulite conundrum, but like most things in this life, they aren’t easy. We wish we could tell you that rubbing a DIY cream on your thighs for a couple of days will cause the cellulite to vanish, but that’s just not the case.
Will it help? Potentially, yes. But skincare that promises miracles is the work of either modern medicine with the inherent risks of side effects, or the work of a swindler, and Skin Actives is neither. If you are willing to do the work to take care of your skin health and be the best person you can be, Skin Actives Scientific is in it with you.
Meanwhile DIY home projects are fun! Engaging in a hobby is a great way to spend an afternoon. So take a look at this great cream and then go back and look through our previous blogs to find all sorts of awesome projects you can do at home.
But first, let’s learn about the science behind cellulite:
What Causes Cellulite?
Cellulite is the name that we have given to the uneven texture that appears when tissue connects to skin around fatty deposits. The skin is stretched at these points of connection, making the pockets of fat seem more pronounced.
Cellulite occurs due to a number of biological factors, and it just so happens that all of them disproportionately affect women. But why?
Let’s break it down:
Thinner Skin - Women’s skin is naturally thinner than that of men. Because of this, when the tissue pulls down it more easily reveals the pockets of fat.
Hormonal Changes - Over the course of a woman’s life, she will undergo many hormonal changes that do not occur in her male counterpart. These changes can have a dramatic effect on collagen production as chemicals designed to break down collagen are released into her system. The release of these chemicals coincide with pregnancy but also with a woman’s monthly cycle. This collagen breakdown makes the fat pockets more visible and leads to cellulite.
Women Carry More Fat Than Men - And they carry it differently too. What can we say, it’s just unfair. Women require more fat biologically than men to carry out the functions that evolved out of nature. Whether you are very fit or more sedentary, a woman is going to carry more fat than a male of the same activity level. And that fat is likely to be stored differently than it would be in men. Fat in women is much more likely to be stored in areas traditionally associated with cellulite such as the thighs or the buttocks region.
How to Get Rid of Cellulite
Unfortunately, because cellulite is the result of so many naturally occurring processes, it is challenging to get rid of.
With so much of cellulite’s appearance connected to fat, the primary anti cellulite course of action is going to be based around diet and exercise, healthy fat eliminating techniques. But that said, even athletic, toned women have to deal with cellulite! So don’t beat yourself up over it, it’s nothing worth starving or harming yourself over.
Part of a well rounded approach would be to work on being happy and satisfied with your vision of yourself. Everyone has things about themselves that they would like to change or potentially, “wish away” with a magic wand. But how many of those things can we really change? And how important is it really to change them?
There is the potential that whatever you think is wrong with you is something that others don’t even really notice or think too much of. In other words, your cellulite may look much worse in your mind’s eye than it does on your body.
Topical Cellulite Creams
Now, with all that having been said, there is some evidence that suggests topical creams might be able to help with cellulite. If you’ve already started your diet and exercise routine but you’d like to be doing a little bit more, or you’re not in a position to start exercising but you’d like to do a little something anyway, cellulite creams might help.
At Skin Actives we prefer trying this method to more drastic invasive procedures nonetheless.
So, for today’s DIY Recipe, what kind of active ingredients are we looking at? Below we’ll outline all the actives we think will help you with your cellulite dilemma, and why.
Green Tea with Caffeine - Caffeine has the ability to temporarily increase blood flow to the region where the cream is applied. This mild flush can even out the texture of the area.
Hydrolyzed Collagen - One of the major causes of cellulite appearance in the first place is the breakdown of collagen in the area. Building your collagen stores back up, leading to an increase in the thickness and elasticity of your skin, can go a long way to addressing trouble with cellulite.
Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) - Take your collagen production to the next level with epidermal growth factor. EGF encourages your skin to function the way it did when it was smooth and new, encouraging dormant cells to reactivate. This production not only fights thin skin and wrinkles, but leads to overall skin health that can depreciate the appearance of cellulite.
Unscented Body Cream - This base cream from Skin Actives is perfect for projects intended to cover a wider area of skin. It goes on smooth and comfortable, while also being unscented to protect you from reactions to scents and oils.
Making Your DIY Cellulite Cream at Home
Making your cream at home is easy! Skin Actives has already done a lot of the work for you.
- Our Unscented Body Cream is the perfect fit for budgets that will need to cover a lot of area.
- Our DIY Active Ingredients are pre-measured for mixing into 4 oz of cream, so you can skip most of the measuring.
Step by Step:
1.) Make sure you have a clean, empty 4 oz jar on hand. Take your Unscented Body Cream and empty about half of it into this jar. Take this half and put it away for safekeeping. You can use it next time you need to make a cream.
2.) Put the rest of the cream in a clean bowl.
3.) Mix in your actives starting with Green Tea w/ Caffeine. When that is nicely distributed, add in your hydrolyzed collagen and mix that as well.
4.) Mix in your epidermal growth factor last. EGF is a delicate protein, so mix gently.
5.) Put your new cream back in the Unscented Body Cream Jar, it’s ready to use!
