What Is Dull Skin And The Best Ways To Brighten It

What Is Dull Skin And Where Does It Come From
What is dull skin? It depends on who you ask. Like art, we know it when we see it, but it’s nearly impossible to define. If your skin is lacking that youthful vibrancy, has a matte look or appears unhealthy, you could say that you have dull skin. The opposite of dull skin, however, does exist, on babies and in Photoshopped pictures. The famous “glow” of the actresses photographed in the 1920s was obtained by careful lighting, make-up and touch-ups.
Now we have Photoshop and people dream of the unearthly radiance of the skin we see everyday on billboards, magazines and webpages. It’s difficult to overstate not only how pervasive these images are, but the degree to which they have been altered. We have to remember that before Photoshop, the skin of any Hollywood celebrity is just like yours and mine.
How Is Dull Skin Treated
Some people will try to get that glow anyway, and after a lot of polishing and alcohol-based toners, they may achieve something like it. Don’t be deceived, this is not an actual glow, but inflammation, and after inflammation and erosion of the skin barrier, acne will follow.
Others may have enough money to pay for microdermabrasion or micro needling, but the principle is the same: sand your skin like crazy, irritate it until it is inflamed and red, and hope for the best.
The Best Products To Brighten Dull Skin
Your skin will never glow, not literally. But you can make it look its best and still guarantee its health with these dull dark skin remedies.
Here are a few products to brighten dull skin:
- Vitamin C Serum
Using our Vitamin C Serum with pure L-ascorbic acid once a week is plenty. This will smooth out your skin by removing the very superficial layer of dead skin cells without interfering with the skin equilibrium. The advantage? It is fast. Just follow the instructions and remember that, with skin, more is less, or, more erosion is less skin barrier!
- Vitamin A Cream
Use our Vitamin A Cream: it will normalize skin renewal and keep your skin working young. This is a good habit to adopt long term. Be patient as the benefits may take some time to show, but they will last forever! If you are exposing your skin to any retinoid, be sure you complement it with Collagen Serum (see below).
- Alpha Beta Exfoliator
Use our Alpha/Beta Exfoliator, but not too often and not if you are already using an acidic C serum (This includes Skin Actives Vitamin C Serums)! Again, this will give you fast results; smoother skin that will show its beauty within minutes. It will also help fight acne.
- Collagen Serum
Definitely use our Collagen Serum. It allows your skin to renew and follow the instructions of the all-powerful Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) while also “closing” your pores. Collagen Serum is an essential complement to Vitamin A Cream (see above). If you are feeling adventurous, add a few essential fatty acids into the mix with ELS Serum.
- Pumpkin Enzyme Peel
Yes, you can use a protease exfoliator like our Pumpkin Enzyme Peel to eliminate the very superficial layers of the epidermis, but please be nice and don’t sand your skin as if it were a wall! Here you will only get an immediate improve in appearance, but the mask may fulfill that need for pampering and you will like the scent of pumpkin pie.
- Make-Up
And, finally, there is make-up. Some chemicals reflect light. But, isn’t it funny that we don’t want oily skin (which reflects light) but want the shine. In this case, consider using a highlighting make-up, just for that special party, date or outing.
