4 Nail Care Tips for Healthy, Beautiful Nails
Tip #1 - Trim Your Nails Regularly
Okay, now we know how much some people love the statement that long, luxurious nails make. However, the CDC suggests that long nails might not be the best for your overall health. Longer nails create the potential to collect more dirt, bacteria, and other visitors, everywhere you go, with every surface you touch. So, by their recommendation, trimming your nails and smoothing them out is the best way to go!
If that’s not going to happen for you, at least make sure that you are cleaning well around the nail area whenever you wash your hands. As you will see below, that may mean that your hands are taking additional wear and tear in other areas, but overall, what we’re looking for is great health and well-being year ‘round.
Tip #2 - Wear Protective Gloves When Working
The image of a pair of dish gloves on your hands when doing housework or washing dishes is very old school and may bring back some stereotypes that people don’t remember fondly. That said, covering your hands while working around the house is the best way to keep them safe and healthy.
The substances that your hands come into contact with on a daily basis can be really hard on your skin and nails. That includes just water this time of year, parching your hands and leading to extra drying and skin breaks! Nevermind surfactants and cleaning chemicals.
If you spend a lot of money on manicures you may already see the value of a pair of gloves for house work. And they don’t have to carry the stigma of the heavy, sort of weird smelling, uncomfortable kitchen gloves. Many stores now carry latex gloves that are not only lighter and more comfortable, they look a lot nicer too.
Tip #3 - Moisturize Your Skin For Healthy Nails
Does that seem counter intuitive? Maybe. As we often remark upon here at Skin Actives Scientific, your skin’s health should be looked at from a holistic viewpoint. There are so many companies today trying to earn your skincare dollars, they keep coming up with concerns that are niches within niches.
But the truth is that the health of your skin affects your nails and your nails affect your skin! By taking care of one, you are taking care of both.
Over the past year we’ve seen a tremendous amount of growth in interest surrounding our Ultimate Moisturizing Cream. And it’s not surprising why! Our Ultimate Moisturizing Cream is our most powerful moisturizer, and we’re never content with a product that does only one, niche thing. Ultimate Moisturizing Cream is also packed with antioxidants and fatty acids (lipids) to both protect your skin from the ravages of aging but also to feed it with the vitamins and nutrients that it needs to stay healthy and strong.
With the cold winter months almost upon us, don’t be afraid to apply this top shelf moisturizer to your hands and joints to keep your skin feeling soft, smooth and supple.
Tip #4 - Give Your Nails the Same Love You Give Your Skin
Just because nails are firm and tough doesn’t mean they don’t need the same kind of love and support that your skin does to stay healthy. But due to the way nails grow, they will likely need to receive this extra help in their own way. Skin Actives approaches this in two ways:
Nail Serum with ROS BioNet™ and Apocynin is your number one source for nail nutrients that will keep them strong and flexible. Packed with antioxidants, our Nail Serum also promotes collagen synthesis with apocynin and growth with Keratinocyte Growth Factor (KGF).
Skin Actives Nail and Cuticle Oil is a must have if your hands are already feeling the burn of the holidays. If all the Thanksgiving merrymaking and cold weather has your nails beat up, get started repairing them with this nutrient dense oil. Meanwhile, if you’ve just taken off acrylics and you are looking to get fully recovered before your next set, Nail and Cuticle Oil is a must have!
