What are Stretch Marks?

Stretch marks are deep scars caused by your skin being stretched beyond its capacity to stretch, followed by ineffective repair of the damage. They may start as reddish streaks which indicate increased blood flow, and then “mature” into hypopigmented, shrunken bands.

Stretch marks can usually be found on the abdomen, thighs, chest area, or arms but really they can appear anywhere when the skin is stretched too fast. This can happen when you put on weight rapidly, either from nutrition sources, muscle development or pregnancy. The outcome ends up being skin that has decreased elasticity, more roughness, and is thinner than skin elsewhere on your body.

What happened?

The science behind stretch marks seem to indicate that collagen bundles disrupted by intense skin stretching were ineffectively repaired.

To address this concern, you need better repair of the collagen and elastin fibers in your skin. It’s true that, on the whole, skin is relatively elastic but sometimes it can’t cope. This can happen when teenagers grow very quickly or when we gain weight rapidly, or during pregnancy. The capacity of our skin to stretch depends on our health, age, and genetics factors.

Stretch Mark Relief

Don’t give up, your stretch marks can be improved! At the very least consider massaging them with rosehip oil. That alone will help with prevention and healing. And for expecting mothers, you can use rosehip oil without any worries during pregnancy and lactation.

Skin Actives Scientific also produces a range of premixed products that will help improve your stretch marks. There are a number of them because the stretch mark represents a generalized failure of the skin to heal properly, and many actives can help with this problem. If you are looking to address stretch marks you certainly don’t have to use all of the suggested products, choose a couple that you may like and if they work for you, stick with them.

Do You Yourself!

If you want to try something a bit more customized, one of our long time customers recommends blending quercetin powder into our Canvas cream (or another base cream of your choosing).

Perhaps you are looking for a bigger project? If so, follow the DIY guide below!

You will need:

Instructions:

  • Disinfect your mixing bowl and implement with isopropyl alcohol.
  • Add retinyl acetate to base cream in this container, mixing well.
  • Add rosehip oil and mix again.
  • Check that there are no undissolved powder.
  • If there is still undissolved powder, continue working the mixture until there is not.
  • Add sea kelp bioferment and mix.
  • Lastly, add EGF and mix gently to ensure the delicate proteins are maintained.
  • Now your lotion is ready to use!

Massage well, the massage itself will help with those stretch marks!
