Optiphen Plus is a preservative perfect for creating paraben-free formulas.
How to use it
Advanced: This ingredient is a highly effective broad spectrum preservative that is recommended for use at 0.75-1.5% and in pH range 3-6 in formulations. This preservative is recommended for emulsions or hydrous formulations, but it is not ideal for anhydrous formulas. We recommend mixing this ingredient with polysorbate 20 in approximately a 1:1 ratio before adding to any primarily water-based systems to keep the preservative in the system. This ingredient can cause thinning of emulsions, but this can be mitigated by adding the preservative to a small amount of the emulsion before adding that mixture to the main batch. This ingredient can be added to emulsions at about 40 degrees Celcius.
Quick Tips
NOTE: Preservative efficacy testing will be the only way to know if a preservative works for your product. Store in a cool, dry place. Optiphen Plus can be gently warmed to ~40C if any solidification occurs.
