The Skincare Benefits of Quercetin You Didn't Know About

Posted by Susan Katz on Mar 14th 2023

Quercetin is still a relative unknown in the skincare industry even as it has gained some notoriety in the past few years as a supplement for its potential health benefits. At Skin Actives, we rely on published scientific studies to help guide us with our formulations and although we have sold quercetin for years as a DIY active ingredient, we only included it in a few of our skincare products. According to recent studies, quercetin can be beneficial for the skin. When applied topically, quercetin can help to protect the skin from damage caused by UV radiation, pollution, and other environmental stressors. It can also help to reduce inflammation and redness and has been shown to be effective in treating acne.

If you are looking for a powerful skincare ingredient that can help to improve the health and appearance of your skin, quercetin is a good addition to your skincare routine.

What is Quercetin?

Quercetin is a type of flavonoid that is naturally found in many fruits and vegetables, such as apples, onions, red wine, and green tea. It is one of the most abundant dietary antioxidants and is known to be highly effective at scavenging free radicals and inhibiting the oxidation of lipids. Quercetin is a potent anti-inflammatory, which means it can help to reduce inflammation and redness caused by environmental stressors like sun exposure, pollution, and other environmental irritants. Furthermore, quercetin has been shown to have anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and potentially anti-cancer properties.

Quercetin can also be beneficial for the skin when applied topically. It can help to protect the skin from sun damage, reduce inflammation, and promote healing. In addition, topical quercetin can help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and age spots and has been shown in studies to be effective in treating acne.

  3. Promotes Wound Healing: Quercetin can help to heal wounds and scars more quickly and effectively. It has been found to stimulate the growth of new skin cells, as well as promote collagen production.
  4. Reduce the Appearance of Wrinkles and Age Spots: Quercetin has been found to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and other signs of aging. It stimulates collagen production, which helps to keep the skin firm and smooth.
